What's Up With That?by Tom Kuzeja - March 7, 1999 |

Now There's a "Thank You"I heard this announcement for Jordan's Furniture the other day. They are closing for a weekend in May so that they can bring all their employees to Bermuda for an all expenses paid "Thank You". Wow! Imagine that? Tell me, what do you think you're attitude would be after that? How would you feel if you were asked to stay an extra hour or two or come in on your day off? I'm guessing you'd be inclined to do it because you knew your employers were looking after you. They came through for you so why not come through for them. Funny, but their management's philosophy is "Our employees came through for us so we owe them our thanks." I don't think I'd like to run a big company. Too much pressure. If I did, I'd try to do it like Barry and Eliot Jordan and have some fun. Life is too short to be stressing the better part of the day away. In my opinion, work should be challenging, stimulating and fun. I'm not advocating that brain surgeons should be yukking it up in the O.R., but most of us aren't brain surgeons, are we? Pyramids are pretty stable structures. Each tier of rock stands strong on the tier below it. The only reason the top stone is there is because all the other stones below it are doing their jobs. Take a few of the bottom stones away, and you may get some wobble. Take a bunch away, and the whole structure collapses. Wobble, wobble. |
