The Pee Wee Years (1972-1974)

During the years of 1972 through 1974, I played in the Pee Wee division of Holyoke's Youth Baseball League. The Pee Wee division was set up for kids between the ages of 9 and 10 (as of July 1st of the year). The team in my area was always lacking players so I was allowed to play at the age of 8 in 1972. In 1972 and 1973 we were called the Rock Valley Boys Club and in 1974, we got a new sponsor, the Holyoke Firefighters.

In Pee Wee, I played every position and finally settled in on pitcher and shortstop, but it was cool learning how to play all the positions including catcher (at the age of 9, it's not easy to keep from blinking your eyes each time the batter swings at a pitch.)
